Eligibility

FICP membership is available to planners who are employed by an insurance or financial services firm as described below.

Insurance

The insurance industry can be defined as companies that provide products such as medical insurance, life insurance, property and casualty insurance and other indemnity products designed to provide some type of financial relief to the policyholder - or designated beneficiaries - should a covered event occur.

Financial Services

The financial services industry can be defined, in general terms, as a collective group of companies or organizations whose primary revenues are derived from the development and/or marketing and selling of investment, banking and accounting products and services to the purchaser.

These organizations include:

  • Commercial and investment banks
  • Investment companies including asset management, brokerage firms and financial planning producer groups
  • Accounting firms

Association Meeting Planners

Professionals who work in a meeting, conference and/or event planning capacity for related associations are eligible for membership in FICP. The association must represent or service the following industries/categories:

  • Insurance (including life, disability, health and property casualty)
  • Commercial and investment banks
  • Investment companies including asset management, brokerage firms and financial planning producer groups
  • Accounting Firms

Association professionals who wish to apply for membership will be evaluated on an individual basis. Membership is subject to approval by the FICP Membership Committee and the Board of Directors.

Independent Contractors

An independent contractor is eligible for FICP membership if he/she works for him/herself and is under contract to perform meeting planning functions with an eligible financial/insurance company.

Independent contractors must submit a letter (on the financial/insurance company's letterhead) documenting that the planner is under contract for that company and is authorized to be an FICP member on behalf of that company. Independent contractors may only represent their registered financial/insurance company and are prohibited from soliciting business from FICP planner members.

Meeting planners who work for third party planning companies are ineligible to become FICP members or hospitality partners. An independent contractor who employs more than one individual is considered a third party planning company and is ineligible for membership.

Corporate Flat-Rate

FICP offers a flat-rate corporate structure whereby the member firm pays $2,250 USD, which covers membership for up to 25 planners from the firm. Click here for additional details and to apply.

In addition, FICP offers a discounted rate of $225 USD each, beginning with the 5th renewing planner.

  • The membership discount program applies to current meeting planner members only. All renewing members must update their online profiles, and any new members joining for the first time from a company must still complete a new planner application and pay the standard membership rate.
  • All members receiving the discount must work for the same company (same company name); employees of affiliate companies are eligible under separate organizations (affiliate companies that do business under different names must apply separately). Discounts cannot be combined.
  • Discounts do apply to companies with planners in multiple offices and/or locations (as long as the company name is the same across offices and/or locations). Individual planner members who join under corporate membership will be listed together under the same company name.

Honorary Membership

The FICP Board of Directors may grant honorary membership in recognition for services provided to the association over a period of years, and usually to one who is considered to be permanently retired from the meeting planning business.  Honorary members may not be employed or otherwise involved in vending meeting support services. Honorary members are not required to pay dues and do not have voting rights, but are invited to attend FICP's Annual Conference.

Eligibility Requirements: Members must be in good standing and have maintained FICP membership for at least 10 years.

To be considered for honorary membership, please forward your written request to membership@ficpnet.com. The request will be forwarded to FICP's Membership Committee, who will make a recommendation to the Board of Directors for final approval.

For more information, or if you have questions, please email membership@ficpnet.com or call (312) 245-1023.

“I like the fact that FICP is industry specific and the care you take to keep the planner-to-hospitality partner ratio. In talking with other planners, each one stated that of all the associations they have been a part of that are geared toward planners, FICP provides the best opportunities to network and receive relevant educational opportunities.”
