Did You Know?
While the United States celebrates Independence Day on July 4 with hot dogs, fireworks, and parades, this month, we're highlighting Canada Day as we get ready for the Canadian Seminar on August 12! Canada Day, celebrated on July 1, commemorates the day the three British colonies of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada united to form a single country. The name "Canada" comes from the Huron and Iroquois word, "kanata", which means village. Many don't know that until 1982, Canada Day was called “Dominion Day." Given that this name did not translate well into French, legislation was passed to officially change the name to Canada Day. Cheers to our Canadian peers celebrating their month of independence! Unfortunately, most professionals do not use it effectively and some use it in a manner that hinders getting the message across. Tune in to this month’s FICP Anytime webinar, taught by Corbin Ball, a professional speaker who has used PowerPoint on five continents in more than 20 countries, for tips, ideas and suggestions on how to make your computer presentations more powerful and, just as important, how not to use it distractingly.

FICP Member of the Month: Meet Ceri Riihiluoma
In Ceri Riihiluoma's Marketing role for Liberty Specialty Markets Bermuda (formerly Ironshore), she is responsible for marketing, events and communications for the Bermuda office. In 2018, she attended the FICP Annual Conference for the first time. Get to know Ceri on TheNetwork.
What has been your favorite moment of your career so far? I loved being part of the America's Cup when it was in Bermuda. We hosted several events on both land and sea which I planned and executed. This culminated in a huge party for our clients and brokers which was touted around the community as the best party they had ever attended. That was a huge accomplishment and a very proud moment for me.
