Did You Know?
In this edition of NewsNet, we're celebrating Thanksgiving! Nearly 400 years ago, in 1621, the first Thanksgiving was celebrated by 50 pilgrims and 90 Wampanoag Native Americans. While modern Thanksgiving celebrations traditionally include a meal of turkey and pumpkin pie, their meal most likely consisted of venison, lobster, and eel. Many don't know that Abraham Lincoln was the first U.S. President to declare Thanksgiving Day a national holiday, after Sarah Josepha Hale, who wrote "Mary Had a Little Lamb," repeatedly wrote to to the Oval Office for 17 years. Today, we celebrate Thanksgiving and honor the past by gathering with our families and kicking off the holiday season with the Thanksgiving Day Parade and football. How does your family celebrate Thanksgiving?
